Visit to a winery in the DO Empordà
|
The Empordà Designation of Origin (D.O. Empordà) is a designation of wine origin, occupying 2,020 hectares of vineyards in the Alt and Baix Empordà. There are 423 winegrowers and 45 wineries registered with the Regulatory Council. The range of Empordà wines is very wide. Red, white and rosé wines are made there. The Garnatxa de l'Empordà wine stands out, a sweet liqueur wine, together with the other natural sweet wine typical of the area, the Moscatell de l'Empordà.
You could visit any of the DO Empordà wineries, but we personally suggest you visit the Oliveda Group, a group that maintains its family structure, despite being one of the largest companies in the DO Empordà. It consists of: Vins Oliveda and Caves Freixa Rigau in Capmany.
The product philosophy is based on the goal of making wines and cavas for all types of audiences, from the buyer of bulk wine to the consumer of signature wines. Oliveda currently has a production of 1,500,000 liters of wine that are distributed between the DO Empordà-Costa Brava and Catalonia.
The visit to the Oliveda winery and the Freixa Rigau cellars includes an interesting collection of taps made up of more than five thousand pieces from all over the world and from all times, from the Middle Ages to the present day. It also includes product tasting.
